We’re back to our normal routine. Emily and Ethan started school and have the same teachers as last year. The University just started up, so it’s back to the daily grind for everyone.

We had a great time in Washington, DC this summer. Most of the time was spent with Aunt Sarah, but Beth also took the kids up to New Jersey for one weekend. The kids saw most of the national monuments and many of the Smithsonian museums. We finished the trip with a Washington Nationals game before trekking back the 1,000 miles to Iowa City.

After two long years, Emily finally cut her hair for “Locks of Love.” She wants to do it again; but for the moment she’s enjoying the convenience of short hair.

It’s been a little adjustment getting back to school; neither kid wanted to go back. Maybe next summer we’ll have to have a boring summer, so that they’ll look forward to going back to school!

Both kids are back to their music lessons (Emily, violin; Ethan, piano) and are preparing for a family recital in mid-September. We recently learned that Ethan’s gymnastics coach, Brad, is leaving the gym to become an assistant coach for the University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team. A great career move for him, but it leaves us with questions about Ethan’s involvement.

The summer sure flew by and although the kids are looking forward to cold weather and snow, Beth and Eugene could use a few more months of the warm weather.
