School is in full swing, and there are many changes in our lives. The biggest news is that Ethan has not gone back to gymnastics, given the sudden departure of his coach from the gym where Ethan was on the team. Things are in flux right now and we may switch him to another gym at the University where his former coach might have some involvement at a future date. So far, the only benefit is not having to take Ethan to practice three days out of the week!

Emily has started playing double bass at school, in addition to playing violin. She’s excited about learning a new instrument and a new clef. Both kids and Beth played in a recital this month and excerpts of it can be found on our video page.

While we still haven’t gotten a dog yet, we did get Emily a fish (betta) that she is taking care of in her bedroom. We’re scanning the animal shelter website weekly, but haven’t found any dogs that fits our desires yet.

Beth and Eugene have committed to regular exercise, now that the University has opened a wellness and recreation center close to where they work. Eugene swims at the pool, while Beth takes group exercise classes. They even have a recreation pool that the kids enjoy.

Other than that, fall is in the air. The temperature is dropping and the Asian pears are about ready to pick. We’re holding on to every last day of warm weather, hoping that this winter will be the mildest yet! (Though the kids want snow, and lots of it!)
