Well, another school year comes to an end. Summer is upon us. And life keeps on speeding past us.

Baseball and softball have been consuming up a lot of after-school time for Emily and Ethan. Emily started playing with the Iowa City Girls Softball League and has been having fun learning the game and hitting the ball from a pitching machine. Ethan is also in a pitching machine league with Iowa City Boys Baseball. He was put on the Oakland A’s team, which pleases his father to no end. We’re not sure which he loves more: the game or the gear! He had a slow start getting used to the pitching machine, but now he’s turned into a solid hitter. Games are on Mondays and Wednesdays (sometimes at the same time), so our evenings have been a little more hectic than we’d like.

We took the kids to New Jersey over the Memorial Day weekend and took the kids into New York City for their first time. We took the bus from New Jersey; the subway to the Museum of Natural History in Central Park; walked through Central Park; walked to Lincoln Center; then took a taxi to Port Authority. Even though the city was pretty quiet for the holiday weekend, the kids were amazed at just how big this city is.

Earlier in the year, we mentioned that Emily was selected for a “Poetry in Public” contest in Iowa City. Earlier this month, Emily had an opportunity to read her poem aloud at the Iowa Arts Festival here in Iowa City. We posted a video of it in our “Video” section. (We also added Ethan’s last piano recital from May.)

Upcoming summer travel for us includes trips to Colorado and Washington, DC. We’re sure the summer will slip past us; but we’ll try to keep the site updated.
